WMU Women's Soccer Releases 2009 Schedule

Kalamazoo, MI (July 21, 2009) - Western Michigan women's soccer interim head coach Suzie Grech has announced the schedule for the 2009 season, highlighted by nine home games including ones with Marquette, defending Mid-American Conference champions Toledo, and conference rivals Central Michigan.

Play begins for the Broncos on Sunday Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. against Indiana State. After the home-opener, Western Michigan hits the road for six-straight games. The Broncos play at Northern Colorado and then battle Wyoming in a return game from last season in which WMU beat the Cowgirls, 3-0, to open the season.

After returning from Wyoming, WMU heads to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the University of Northern Iowa Panther Invitational on Sept. 4. The Broncos open the tournament against Eastern Illinois on Friday and then take on host Northern Iowa on Sunday. The non-conference road schedule ends with games at Oakland and Wright State. For the final non-conference game of the season the Broncos host Marquette on Sept. 20 and begin a five-game home stretch.

Defending MAC champs Toledo come to town to begin MAC play on Friday, Sept. 25. WMU hosted the Rockets to start off conference play last year, shocking last year's preseason favorites, 2-1. On Sunday the Broncos host Bowling Green as part of a WMU soccer double-header. The men's team hosts Centenary at 1 p.m., with the women's team following at 2:30. WMU's first MAC road test comes against Buffalo on Friday, Oct. 9, where WMU won 1-0 last season. The Broncos then head to Kent State on Sunday for the second of its four road conference matches.

Western Michigan returns home from Kent to battle its in-state conference rivals Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. The Broncos and Eagles match up on Friday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m., and WMU and CMU battle on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Broncos head to Miami and Ball State the following week before returning home to face Northern Illinois for its final home game of the season Thursday, Oct. 29.
