() - The Western Michigan women's soccer team opens the 2011 season hosting Valparaiso on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. for an exhibition match at the WMU Soccer Complex.

The Broncos are fresh off a MAC Championship game appearance in just the second season under head coach Suzie Grech. Now entering their third season under her, the Brown & Gold return 16 players from last year's team, including several starters.

A big key returning piece is senior Stephanie Skowneski. Skowneski, a native of Clinton Township, Mich., became the first Bronco in program history to be named Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year after leading the team 22 points on a school-record nine goals and four assists.

This is the lone home game until Sept. 18 for WMU. The Broncos open the regular season with seven straight road games, including tournaments at Northern Illinois and Notre Dame.
